The U.S. Geological Survey reported an earthquake magnitude of 7.0 at 7:17 p.m. and an aftershock magnitude of 5.9 at 5:37 p.t.
It’s the fifth magnitude of an earthquake this month in Arizona, and the sixth on record.
The quake occurred about 200 miles south of Tucson, and was centered in the town of Taos, about 80 miles south east of Phoenix.
It was about 6.5 miles wide.
The USGS said it was located just east of a line of faults called the Azimuthal Range.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 10 miles south-southeast of Trosper, the USGS reported.
