When I first started out in comedy, I would do standup for laughs, but it would also have its benefits.
For example, in the mid-90s, I was working in a comic store when we came across a comic called Steve Allen.
Steve Allen had been writing a comedy sketch called “The Big One” in which a car goes off a cliff.
It was a very popular sketch, and we were doing standup comedy on the weekends.
One weekend, we decided to do it again, and this time we had a larger audience.
So we were getting phone calls from different people around the world saying, “I’m a standup and I just want to do this one sketch.”
One guy called up and said, “How do I get the opportunity to do a stand-up sketch?”
And I said, well, you just go and tell me.
And he said, I’ll tell you.
You just say it and then you can start.
So that was the beginning of what would become standup.
Nowadays, I do stand-ups, and I like to have fun with them, and they do too.
We do a lot of sketch comedy.
Sometimes it can be hard to get the right people to come to the table, but I think the funniest stand-asides come from a place of love.
Sometimes they come from people who just want you to do your own thing.
Sometimes you need someone who knows you as a person, but can bring a laugh to the situation.
I love seeing stand-in stand-Up.
And, you know, the other night, there was a guy who was very funny, but didn’t know what to do, so he came to the standup table and he started talking about how he had been thinking about doing a sketch about a child and his dad.
So he sat down and did that sketch, with the same thing he had just said.
It wasn’t the best sketch, but he did it.
You can’t do that.
It’s just not funny.
And it’s one thing when you can do something that people say, “Oh, he’s too stupid to do that.”
But I have a lot more respect for the person who has been able to take a joke and make it funnier than the person whose head is full of the worst jokes.
And so, when you are doing stand-apart comedy, it’s more fun than it is for the people who are actually doing it.
And I think that that is one of the benefits.
When I started, I had never done stand-appart, and it wasn’t like I was trying to do stand up.
I just liked the idea of doing stand up, and so, for the first time in my life, I felt like I had a lot going on.
I was really enjoying myself, and when I got to the point where I had to go back to standup, I just felt like, This is the only thing I’ve ever been good at.
And that’s the beauty of stand-aloud.
If I can do a funny sketch and get a laugh from people, it is great.
But if you can’t, you’ve just got to go with what’s going on with the joke.
It is kind of like, Why did I do that?
So, I think I have been fortunate in that I’ve had good stand-at-it moments, and if I’ve learned anything from my time, it has been to just go with the flow.
And the best stand-alone sketches are the ones that go right to the heart of the joke, not just the funny thing.
So I would say that when I do a sketch, I’m looking for something that’s not too hard.
I don’t want to be too serious.
And if you are going to be serious, you have to do something really funny.
It can’t just be the funnier sketch.
I have to be funny.
I can’t have this person stand in a chair and be like, “It’s a really big joke, it needs to be said.”
So, when I am trying to be very serious, it can sometimes be hard for me to do funny sketches, and sometimes I don’ like it.
I think, if you get it right, you can make it fun and not hard.
And sometimes when I’m trying to write funny, it becomes very hard.
So, if I’m doing standups, it depends on how serious I am about the joke and the person that I’m writing it for.
I like that people get to go, “This is not a joke.”
But, if it’s not a laugh, then it is not funny, because it doesn’t really matter if the person is joking or not.
And then you’ve got to be really careful not to just
